Particularly active in Churriana de la Vega are the months of July, August and September. As every year, the City Council presents a diverse program of events that includes culture, sports, visits, workshops, and long-awaited San Roque celebrations.
Antonio Narvaez, Churriana de la Vega’s mayor, said that “after two atypical years, we once more offer a wide variety of possibilities in which all neighbors fit. This serves as a preview for our patron saint festivities in honour of our patron saint – the Virgin of The Head>>.”
The Municipal Pool is a main attraction in Churriana during summer. The free access to the pool is available from Monday to Sunday from 12:00 to 19.00 in July and August. The prices for Churriana residents are reduced, 3 euros per child for Monday through Saturday and 4 euros per adult for Sunday. Children pay 4 euros for Sundays and holidays and adults 5 euros for holidays and weekends.
The good student card gives away vouchers to the Municipal Pool once a week to all students who have passed all subjects. The Municipal Center of Culture will issue a card to young people if they provide their grades and a photograph.
On Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays in July and August, the Day of the Churrianero is celebrated. Residents registered in the municipality are eligible for free admission to the Pool. The ticket will be refunded at the Municipal Sports Center.
There are also summer programming options that cater to families. Dramatized evening visits to the Arab baths and “Live your parks” are examples of such options. Each Friday will feature games, crafts and gymkhanas, as well as a tour of the municipal playgrounds.
The films Valentina Raya, Spirit, and The Croods will all be a part of summer cinema. Open-air theater, science workshops and emotional education will be enjoyed by children. Day trips to Torremolinos or Torrox, as well as the Aqua Tropic waterpark, complete the wide array of activities for young children.
There will be taichi and passive gymnastics classes, as well as zumba classes. Senior citizens can participate in a course to combat the digital divide, recycling activities and laughter therapy. They also have the option of a session of dance therapy with the help of the Social Services adapted vehicle.
On August 15, the San Roque celebrations will feature as their main dish the election of Queen and Mister who return to Plaza Maestro Agustin. August 16th, San Roque, the patron saint of San Roque, will parade through the streets of the city before concluding with La Blanca y el Negro’s popular verbena.
Churriana feels the summer pulse and is back stronger than ever.
