Deretil, with a current workforce totaling 202, informed workers’ representatives that it intends to initiate an ERTE. It is based in Villaricos.
The ERTE was proposed as a result of a “clearly negative economic situation” of the company. It is a result of an increase in energy prices, which causes a “massive loss of competitiveness” and a consequent “clear decrease in sales>> for 2022 of products manufactured at the indicated plants.
The Company Committee and Labor Authority-Employment Delegation are notified after a maximum of five days. The consultation period will begin in 15 days. After that, both the Company Committee and the Labor Authority-Employment Delegation will be notified.
The price rises in electricity and gas have been 91% and 185%, respectively, when compared to 2021’s average price. In some cases, the price of raw materials has increased by 124%.
Deretil will be able to offer energy at more competitive prices in 2023 (electricity, gas). This, along with a foreseeable fall in the price for raw materials, will help the company recover its competitiveness and sales. It would also allow the company to re-establish activity at the affected plants by the ERTE.
According to the company, the proposed measures to both the Labor Authority as to the Works Council “are clearly reasonable” and “essential”.
