It has been a long struggle. Last week, Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann (FDP) was able to report progress: The self-determination law, with which transgender, intersex and non-binary people can have their gender entry changed at the registry office without a prior psychiatric assessment, is to come soon.
This means that a “great promise” made in the coalition agreement is being kept, said Buschmann. “Everyone whose gender identity differs from the gender entry that is entered for them in the civil status register will benefit from the Self-Determination Act.”
