Alcala la Real’s City Council has joined the General Directorate of Traffic campaign on distracted driving surveillance and control. This week, the local police in the municipality are carrying out the campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness about distracted driving and make drivers more aware of the risks.
You should not dial a number, answer a call, read or reply to a WhatsApp or light a cigarette while driving. This is because the vehicle can circulate without control, and could cause an accident.
Jesus Aguilar, the Councilor for Urban Mobility and Citizen Security, stated that the campaign will monitor these driving behaviors so that everyone is aware of the potential consequences and can work together to reduce the number of accidents.
In 2019, distraction was a contributing factor in 28% accidents resulting in fatalities. It takes only three seconds to travel a distance of more than a football field at 120 km/h. The driver’s reaction time to unforeseeable events is less if the vehicle speeds are higher.
Driving safely and concentrating on the road will reduce the chance of an accident. Speed and distraction can make driving dangerous. Drivers should be aware of this. These campaigns are essential. Although we are familiar with the theory, we don’t know how crucial it is to apply it.
