In a letter to the editor on the DN Review (29 January) argues SSU’s Stockholm district Daniel Vencu Velasquez Castro towards a recognition of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó.
He demonstrates an alarming ignorance of venezuelan politics and society. Vencu Velasquez Castro should instead support those who are legitimately elected in Venezuela.
SSU-the president speaks loud about the development of society under Chavez, among other things, on the declining rate of illiteracy and economic inequality. The Vencu Velasquez Castro not realize is that this policy has had devastating consequences.
the news agency Bloomberg has Venezuela in an annual hyperinflation of about 440.000 per cent. Many people do not have money for food. According to the BBC, eat eight of the ten venzuelaner less, and six of the ten go to sleep hungry.
This is called jokingly referred to as ”Maduro-diet”. The country is mismanaged and it is a result of poor political governance.
the Policy under former president Hugo Chavez and his successor Nicolas Maduro has been based on the authoritarian klientelism. It means that leaders ensure their governing power by buying political support in the different socio-economic classes of government money.
unsustainable. It is something that other Latin american dictators used in the past, including the former argentine president Juan Perón. Both Maduro and Chavez have huvudlöst been spending state oil money. It has created today’s unsustainable situation.
Klientelismen and auktoritarianismen in Venezuela underlines all the more clearly by the fact that both leaders used state violence to suppress the political opposition. Despite widespread irregularities and the apparent fraud during the parliamentary elections in 2017 succeeded in the opposition against Maduro to gain a majority.
in Order to secure his own power, annulled the Court of the powers of parliament via the Maduro-positive Supreme court. The organization of american states (OAS) described this sequence as a ”självkupp”.
fulspel is not väsensskilt from how Maduro and Chavez has acted in the past. It follows a clear pattern of auktoriatarianism.
Juan Guaidó is the leader of the popularly elected parliament. The Swedish government should, therefore, support his role as interimpresident until the secure and fair presidential elections have taken place.
the Alternative would be that the incumbent semidiktatorn may trust that this is already abused. That Maduro would remain as president until the next election year, by 2025, would give him and his party the opportunity to manipulate the elections to their advantage.
dispassionately and to put themselves in the negotiations and mediate with a Latin american leader would be harmful. It would just give the Maduro government an legitmitet it does not deserve.
the Contents of the Vencu Velasquez Castro’s letter to the editor is completely at odds with the social Democrats självpåstådda humanist and democratic tradition. The chairman should monitor the situation closely and support those who are elected in Venezuela.
