The small, daily migration of peoples: Four million Swiss commute to work, 0.8 million trainees in sites to their Teaching. In the process of 2017, nine out of ten economically active commuters, which means that they had to leave their residential buildings, to get to work.

The journeys to work are getting longer and longer, the commuter flows are always poets: Of the employed worked last year, 71 percent outside of their community, as new Figures from the Federal office for statistics (BFS) show. In 1990, it was 59 percent.

In the same period, the proportion of commuters, which crossed the cantonal border increased from 12 to 20 percent. Basel-Stadt and Zug were measured attracted to their sheer Size, the cantons, of which the most Commuters from other cantons. The least attractive for extra-cantonal labour was the Ticino.

car is still popular

For more than half of the work commuters, the car was the transport of choice. About one in every six took the railway, for a little less of the public road transport was sufficient. Naturally, the distribution in the training commuters was quite different: 16 percent used the car, respectively, on the school bus. 41 percent took the railway, a quarter of Tram and Bus. As in the case of the workers, went about every tenth of a foot.

That school pupils, students and apprentices frequently use the railway, not only so that they rarely possess a driver’s license. It is also on the route: workers have an average of 15 kilometres, and you may need 30 minutes. Trainees put back in contrast, an average of 21 kilometers in 40 minutes. (fal/sda)
