Australia is used to the heat. But for weeks, it is so hot that the horses die of thirst, bats fall dead from the trees and people in your pillow in the freezer.
The images are shocking: horse to horse to horse, dead, in a dried-up water in Central Australia. Here are the temperatures for weeks at 42 degrees, and more. 80 dead horses were found, a further 50 were in such bad condition that they had to be killed. In Parts of the country it has not rained in years, the fields are bare, the pastures brown, animals have plenty of room in the shade of a few trees and fight for Survival.
It is the most terrible heat of the past 80 years, farmer Kate says. “Since two, three weeks without ceasing. You can’t sleep, the heat is terrible, the animals suffer.”
Quite early in the Morning, you should be allowed on Uluru. Starting at 8 a.m. it is too hot, the Rangers lock the Hiking trails.
Uluru from 8 o’clock in the morning
disabled there is Hardly a heat wave passes, it rolls to the next across Australia. The temperatures rise up to 48 degrees. Hot it is, especially in the southeastern part of the country – or even in the red centre, the heart of the continent, the Uluru. The landmark of the country is inaccessible. Who is not climbed to 8 o’clock in the morning on the Uluru – formerly known as Ayers Rock, is not allowed. The Ranger lock the trails, if it gets too hot.
The danger of Hitzschlägen authorities do not want to take the risk in the first place. In the Australian Outback, a German tourist, has just been killed. On new year’s day, she was broken, alone, to a hike, a few days later she was found under a tree, to dehydration and died.
Many of the animals makes the heat. This Koala has taken refuge in a tree that is reached by the spray of a lawn sprinkler.
animals in the Zoo – as kangaroo Warru in Adelaide – get blocks of ice for cooling.
cooling in supermarkets has problems
crash Who can, himself into the water – not only children and adults. As soon as it gets dark, a diving kangaroos in water holes, Koalas, capers, garden hoses, giraffes in the Zoo are wet sprayed. Hundreds of bats were less fortunate: Baby-flying foxes died from the heat, and fell dead from the trees in a suburb of Sydney.
Also, who goes into a supermarket, you can notice the effects of the heat: The cooling shelves are cleared out, only in a refrigerator for a couple of panels are chocolate. The gear and the racks in which usually bars of chocolate, biscuits, and chocolate candies are, are naked except for a piece of paper. It says: “Due to technical problems and unusually high temperatures there is only a small selection of chocolates in the fridge compared to of the fruit shelves.”
“Yes, our cooling unit has to fight, when it’s over so many days over 40 degrees is hot,” said supermarket employee Christopher. But he is left. “What are we to do? In any case, not the whole day in cooled rooms to hide. If I have an early night, cook with me at home with a Cup of tea and sit outside in the shade.”
The Billy Kings Creek in New South Wales has led for years, no more water, let alone a two-Meter-high floods.
Also at night, not under 30 degree
for Many people, the hot nights continue, especially as the temperatures fall, often below 30 degrees. So there is a tips: Wet cloth on the forehead, the pillow during the day, freezing, moisture socks to wear.
The people suffer, animals die, local trees, and the Australian weather are actually accustomed to, die. The government, however, remains in their line, that the heat belong to the continent. Of climate change, there is no speech: Australia, the coal country, to new coal-fired power plants to build.
