Is the end with cars that have a diesel engine, or are they ready to take one more round with the new technology, which makes them more efficient and cleans the exhaust better? The answer has blafret in the wind for a long time – well nourished by the new requirements for a more effective abandonment of the fuel, which will soon come into force.

While the majority of japanese car makers screws down dieselbrænderne or completely scraps of diesel as Toyota, Subaru and to an extent Nissan, dare Honda coat with an optimized version of the brand’s 1.6-liter diesel, called i-DTEC, which provides 120 hp, just like its predecessor, and has just launched in the Civic. It is an engine, which we test with mellemudstyrsniveauet Elegance that lands on good funds, 256,000 dollars.

The closest Tobleronekantede Civic, which was launched in the third generation in the last year, is already one of the most well-run cars in the class, and the attribute is not removed with the new diesel engine, which appears soft and supple, with an almost kattepoteagtig spinnen, before and after the torque on the 300 Nm peak at the 2,000 revs.

in Fact, the engine is so elastic, that it is approaching a turbobenziner in its conduct, and it is experienced as one of the best diesel engines on the market. We had in testugen a very varying driving behaviour, but lay on the neat side of the 20 km/l, so we think that you with an easy speederfod can keep a nice fuel economy.

Drivers car
But let us look more closely at the model, in the everyday experienced more practical than the square design suggests, but also is geared to be a drivers car of the kind that, for example, compete with the Seat Leon or the Mazda3.

Behind the wheel of Civicen you have a view of a driving position, as with its soft surfaces, pure instruments and a nice big screen with navigationsanlæg, there is a part of the so-called Elegance-navipakke, exudes a certain kind of premium-attitude.

the Screen works, however, something gnidret and the graphics improvements, so you must hit the keys with razor-sharp precision in order not to make wrong orders. On the road we see a car that at best the Honda-style will be run. The prerequisites are a sharp steering and a velklikkende gear shift. It is followed later by an automatic transmission with nine steps.

Now, we do not have the same energetic antrit as in the model with the new 182-hp gasoline engine that also is somewhat expensive, and as we’ve tested, but it smoothly sejtræk in the diesel engine provides a different and more laid-back gangkultur. It is a motor that plays well with the car’s dna. In turn, suffers the car of quite a lot of tyre noise.

Functional
In the daily functioning things, as they should. Bagsædepladsen is also adequate, and Honda’s designgimmick with a two-piece tailgate with a spoiler in the middle of the rear window gave a small view of the previous model.

In the new is the spoiler maintained, but adjusted so visibility is improved.

the Cargo area is 478 liters nicely spacious despite the sloping tailgate.

With the smooth-running 1.6-liter diesel engine of 120 hp, which is doing 28,6 km/l under the new, strict standard, Honda has shown that there are still opportunities to improve dieselteknologien.
