The left-wing extremist Battisti hid for years in Brazil, in order to escape a life sentence in Italy. But the new President, Bolsonaro promised Italy a delivery. Now, Battisti was taken.

After years on the run, the former Italian left-wing extremist Cesare Battisti investigators went to Bolivia and into the net. Brazil’s government confirmed the arrest, without naming Details. Battisti, was for many years tolerated in Brazil as a political refugee, turned up last but in Bolivia, after the newly elected right-wing President Jair had declared Bolsonaro, to want him to Italy to deliver.

Convicted of involvement in four murders

Battisti said to have been involved as a member of the extreme left-wing group of “Armed proletarians for communism” (PAC) in the late 1970s to four murders in his homeland. He denies any involvement, but admits the membership of the PAC. In 1981, the escape from an Italian prison, he managed, in 1990, he was sentenced in absentia.

Under the socialist President François Mitterrand Battisti took place in the 1990s in France, a refuge from the Italian judiciary and an existence built as a writer. As the conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy wanted to turn him in 2004 in Italy, fled Battisti in Brazil. The then socialist President Lula da Silva rejected an extradition request. Last December, however, the Brazilian judiciary issued an arrest warrant against Battisti. Shortly thereafter, he fled to Bolivia.

Italian officials on the way to Bolivia

The Italian judicial system seems to do everything that Battisti is quickly returning to his homeland: Italian officials are already on a flight to Bolivia, in order to achieve the extradition of the 64-Year-olds, such as the Ministry of the interior announced in Rome.
