A group of La Zubian women have been weaving more than 30 purple wool scarves in recent months. These scarves will be used to expand the library at the Albolote Penitentiary. These neighbors, whose association goes by Tejedoras de Suenos are going to exchange their scarves and homemade cookies for books for the prisoner in Granada.
This solidarity initiative was organized to mark International Women’s Day. The women created a large purple bow that measured more than 60 meters long. It has been displayed on Casa Pinta’s facade in recent weeks.
Rebeca Sanchez and Natalia Arregui are the councilors of Equality and Citizen Participation of La Zubia. They point out that there will be a swap of solidarity scarves and cookies to books on Wednesday, April 6, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Casa Pinta.
Julia Patricia Canigueral Jimenez, granddaughter of Enrique Jimenez “Gabiarra”, baker at El Horno de Ana, made the cookies. Also, new and used books for children and adults will be collected.
Puri Lopez, the mayor of La Zubia thanks Tejedoras De Suenos and all women in the municipality for their enthusiasm and dedication to helping the Albolote prison. Managers have already expressed their appreciation to La Zubia’s residents and neighboring municipalities.
