After “threats were posed”, Lina’s father Riaz Sardar Khail said that the child and her family fled Afghanistan in 2019.
Lina was last seen at an apartment complex’s playground on December 20. Her mother left briefly and returned to find her child missing. Police said Lina last saw her wearing a black dress, black jacket, and black shoes, and with her brown hair in a bun.
The FBI was involved in the case two weeks later. The FBI’s 12-member elite FBI Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team arrived from Washington, D.C. to check a lead, according to Police Chief William McManus.
“I wish I could be more positive. This looks like we are really on the right track. He said that all they are doing is following up at this point.”
Lina’s father was seen praying by Lina near the creek where the FBI team was operating, KENS TV reported. This site is just over two miles from Lina’s family’s home.
Volunteers were also looking for Lina. They searched on the other side a bridge less than one mile from the FBI’s dive location.
Frank Trevin, a volunteer for the station, said that it was rocky. There is a lot debris. Many of the debris is washed into rivers. It builds up. It can be quite dangerous down there.”
CBS News was informed by the San Antonio Police Department that there has been no update on the case. It is still under active investigation. The public information officer for the department stated that Lina was being found by “The San Antonio Police Department in partnership with our federal counterparts” Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the missing persons unit at (210)207-7660.
