Against the façade of the As-Soennah mosque in the Dutch city of The Hague this morning, a banner placed with abusive texts to the address of the prophet Muhammad. Next to the banner was a mannequin in Arab clothing, half naked and with a beard, in the crotch of a baby doll placed.
A spokesperson of the Foundation as-Soennah reported that dozens of believers in the mosque were present for the morning prayer, when the dolls and the banner down. “On bewakingsbeelden is to see that the dolls and the banner about a quarter past five, are placed,” says Abdelhamid Taheri, chairman of the board of the Stichting as-Soennah. The incident was shortly before children koran teaching that would follow.
“This is not an attack on our mosque, but an attack on the whole muslim world,” says Taheri. “The morning prayer was just on the corridor. Only when the moskeebezoekers went out, they saw the dolls and the texts.” Taheri points an accusing finger at right-wing extremists. On the banner is ’the Qur’an is poison” to read. The broadcaster NOS reports that some of the Prophet Muhammad kinderneuker’ on the banner.
The police report that they with with the Stichting as-Soennah had contact about the incident and that they would examine. Taheri says not yet to know whether he reported are going to do. “The police in the district does its best, but I have little confidence in the public ministry. Declarations for previous attacks on our mosque have never yielded anything.” According to him there by the responsible authorities too little action against fear of muslims.
Mayor Pauline Krikke reacted “with horror”. “In The Hague we have a right to each other, to disagree, but within the frameworks of the law and with respect for each other’s ideas, without that we meet this unnecessary hurt and pain,” said the mayor in a statement.
