Rosa Menendez stated, “This is our greatest challenge as society: to think.” She said that education is the first step in this direction. According to the CSIC president, scientists must make society take part in solving its problems and offer “approaches beyond technology solutions.” It is important to focus on the social and individual aspects of life, as well as philosophical, or existential, reflections. One of these challenges is the fair and sustainable use limited resources in the face global change. She believes it is time to assume responsibility, as “it is not permissible for our successors to be worse off than they should.”
