Roeselare Josiane Casteleyn and Filip Braeye taps on april 27, their last pints in the café The Settler on the corner of Hippoliet Spilleboutdreef and the ’s Gravenstraat in Roeselare. Not even 2.5 years after a new wind were to blow through the café they have been forced to a point behind the story. The café should make way for apartments.
Café The Settler, formerly café ’t Meilied, for decades a fixed value in Roeselare, but in a few weeks, the café at the plain. That is a famous line by the account of Josiane Casteleyn and Filip Braeye, which is the case since October 2017 to operate. “I’ve always helped a lot in the hospitality industry, but earned to the living as a cleaning lady,” says Josiane. “I was looking for a new career and the hospitality industry seemed to me to be perfect. It was intended that I The Settler would run up to my retirement.”
Disappointment
“our brewer, we were however told that the owner of the café, which is also the four houses next to the café in the ’s Gravenstraat possession, other plans. All buildings need to be to make way for apartments. We are really disappointed”, sigh Josiane. “We had this in advance conscience, then we were never in the café stepped in”, it picks up Filip in. “We have still five thousand euros will be invested to a billiards place, but for what? Soon ends our story here, but also a lot of other people have to look for another place. The Settler is the home of three biljartclubs, a kingkaartersclub, and we are part of the Roeselaarse Interclub Kaarting.”
How disappointed the couple is, Josiane and Philippe want to be the last day with heart and soul committed to their case. “On the 27th of april we are going there for the last time in a solid lap to specify a farewell party. What the future brings, we don’t know yet. We will start a new story in the hospitality industry or not? After what we are experiencing here, I have something to fear”, Josiane.
