The police of Ostend has a dozen new vehicles added to the fleet. The three semi-anonymous copies of the Skoda Octavia RS, two anonymous Opel Zafira’s and five combi’s of the type Volkswagen Transporter with the well-known striping and orange bumper.
“When the police vehicle is chasing or narijdt, we have the parquet, the exact speed of that vehicle can be determined. Details are of great importance in a research,” explains spokesperson Smits. The actual speed relative to the speed measured in the patrol cars can differ per police vehicle. “Therefore, each police vehicle separately calibrated on the basis of a speedometer along the side of the road. So is the difference between the measured and actual speed clear”, says Smits.
