The electoral night of 26M saw a surprise from the PP in Las Gabias, and the party won the elections for first time. Popular and Socialists were tied for eight councilors. However, the right held the key to the government when it repeated Ciudadanos with three. The government pact between the orange and popular formations has granted the mayor to Maria Merinda Sadaba. In return, Ciudadanos is made a part of the gabirro administration. Vox is accompanied by a councilor, and IU para la Gente provides another.
* Cs’s three councilors will assume the mayorship and all responsibilities in the areas Urban Planning and Projects and Sports, Parks and Gardens. Culture, Equality and Education. Tourism and Heritage.
Three elected Ciudadanos councilors will join eight from the PP in forming a co-government. Jose Antonio Rosales will take over as the first mayor and will also be giving orange color to the areas Urban Planning and Projects and Sports, Parks and Gardens. Rosales and Sandra Calderon and Julia Olmos will share the responsibility for the area of Culture, Equality and Heritage.
The Transport Consortium will also have a representative from each party; representatives in the Collective Negotiation Table (CNT) and Joint Joint Commission would also be present; and the Governing board would consist of three members representing each party within the local government.
Rosales stated that Ciudadanos would also promote many proposals from the Las Gabias local government. These include lowering taxes on families and businesses, guaranteeing Early Childhood Education places from 0-3 years old enough, promoting home help services, innovation in telecare and equal opportunities for men and women.
Both formations have made progress on some of their priorities for this mandate as well. These include the improvement in security through the opening of the Hijar Police Headquarters, promotion of pending infrastructures like the bypass to Gabia Grande and the shuttle bus service from the Armilla metro stations, the improvement in health resources by requesting 24-hour emergency services at the municipal hospital, or the improvement and maintenance of public spaces.
