French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, released after nearly 20 years in prison in Nepal, has returned to France. He arrived at Paris’ Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport on Saturday morning, an AFP reporter reported. On the plane, he had told the journalist who was traveling with him that he was “innocent”.
The 78-year-old, portrayed in the Netflix series “The Snake”, was released early from prison in Nepal on Friday for health reasons. The Supreme Court also ordered his deportation to France.
Sobhraj killed scores of people in Asia in the 1970s. He is linked to more than 20 murders. He has been in prison in Nepal since 2003 for the murder of two North American tourists. Before that, he had already spent two decades in Indian custody.
