“So you can check your election”

“half A ton of carbon dioxide for a tour to the south of europe, or three tons for Thailandsresan? Now, researchers at Chalmers university of technology has launched a page where you can easily see how much carbon your trip will cause.”

“the Site flightemissionmap.org has been created by researchers at Chalmers university of technology, and is very new,” says Jörgen Larsson, a researcher with a focus on sustainable consumption and air travel.”

“We wanted to increase the awareness of that distance plays a role for how the emissions will be,” he says.”

“It is possible to see approximately how much carbon different destination means, all the way from, for example, Oskarshamn or Umeå to different places. Yet are not stopovers, but the emissions are estimated as a flat rate.”

“But the one that draws the mouse from Sweden out in the world to see that emissions in Europe are at fairly modest levels. In any case, if you compare with more distant places, such as Australia and New Zealand, which gives the entire five-and-a-half to six tonnes in emissions.”

“the Conclusion we should draw is that longer trips provide greater emissions and it does not depend only on the distance. Also höghöjdseffekten is greater for long-distance destinations, ” says Jörgen Larsson.”

” It’s the water vapor that the plan places on the high altitude, over 8 000 metres, which acts as a kind of quilt. For domestic flights, it is not so large, only 10 to 20 percent of the route Stockholm – Gothenburg is at high altitude. To include höghöjdseffekten we have multiplied the carbon emissions by 1.9 in the model, but there are large uncertainties around these figures, ” says Jörgen Larsson.”
