With the Swedish student, Greta Thunberg started it. Meanwhile, thousands of students go on Fridays held in the school for more climate protection on the road. You know exactly what you want to achieve and have concrete demands to the politicians.

As a couple of friends and I heard in December from a school strike for the climate, for us was clear: We are on strike. The beginning of the week, we expected that there would be about 20 people and hoped to appear in a margin note in the newspaper. The end of the week my friends and I stood in front of 500 students. We were not a marginal note, but the title theme of our regional newspaper. I was overwhelmed, as we were already in the first week so much attention to our topic for the future.

organizer Jacob Blasel: A great experience to see how hundreds of young people organize something for themselves.

It was a huge success, because for the first Time perceived adults aware of how much the climate policy to our future. But this was only the beginning of our movement. After the first climate strikes, more and more young people have come together to organize in their places of strikes. There are now more than 160 local groups of the “Fridays For Future” in Germany. From the beginning it was important for me to motivate as many other young people to do something against the climate crisis. It is necessary that we all pitch in, so that really changed anything.
