Regardless of whether you take Dantaxi in Køge, denmark, Skanderborg, Odder, or Copenhagen, you risk that your money will go in tax havens, when they go through the taxi company’s system.

In October last year was Dantaxi sold to private equity fund Triton, which in Denmark also owns Logstor and Nordic Tankers. The company owns Dantaxi through a web of companies that go through the Luxembourg, and the ownership of Denmark’s largest taxi company ends up on the british island of Jersey, located off the French coast of Normandy.

the Island is known as a notorious tax haven, just as it is almost impossible for the public to get an insight into the island’s companies, hitting the uk skattelyekspert John Christensen fixed:

– It is a tax haven for the full blast, he says and elaborates:

– the Background is often to blur, who owns the company. My guess is, that you can’t find out who owns the Jersey business, and that it will be difficult to find out who the real owner is. Often you will find out that it is owned by a fund, and you will not be able to find out who has invested in the fund. Often, in order to avoid paying taxes.

The british expert gets the support from Hannah Brejnholt Tranberg, tax policy advisor at Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, which for Radio 24syv has stated:

– You skatteoptimerer, so you pay as little as possible in taxes. It is not illegal, but the consequences are costly to the rest of society, there is miss of money to the public purse that pays for good roads and decent hospitals, says Hannah Brejnholt Tranberg to Radio24Syv.

It is not only Dantaxi-owners, who in the public has been accused to avail themselves of tax havens. Copenhagen Airports was previously owned by australian private equity firm Macquire, like Taxes from 2006-2010 have tried to force to pay withholding tax.

Often it is namely such, that if the company makes profits in Denmark, which paid corporate taxes on the profits. On the other hand a possible benefit often channeled directly out of the country without the tax authority. Completely legal. Usually, the company shall pay 27 percent in corporate tax, but because Denmark has an agreement with the Luxembourg release the companies to pay this tax, if the proceeds are payable therefor.

Previously, Torben Bagge, skatteadvokat, explained it thus:

– The classic Luxembourg-feint is that the money must first be sent to Luxembourg, so that can not be charged withholding tax, also because Luxembourg has some advantageous agreements with tax havens-countries, so when the money is passed on, you typically have to pay a limited tax. Typically it’s a quarter of a percent in interest withholding tax.

– If they can do it legally, because they have found a loophole, I can’t see any problem. So, it must surely be the politicians ‘ responsibility to have closed the gap.

– I will choose the cheapest.

– basically I don’t care, as long as it is legal, and I get the cheapest price.

– That I do not like. They should pay taxes like everyone else does. And I can see that we need the tax, so we can help others.

I are rarely in the taxi, but it means something. As a consumer it is the only way to mark his dissatisfaction.

– It is a double standard. They were after Uber with the salary, but if they do not pay taxes, they can also have a lower price. So somewhere, they do it the same as Uber.

– It is a bad idea. You should pay the taxes, and their employees have enough enjoyment of the goods, as there are in Denmark because of the tax.

I are rarely in the taxi, so it’s not going to mean anything.

– It doesn’t look nice. It should generally pay the tax.

capital fund: All other makes it

Ekstra Bladet has asked private equity fund Triton, why Dantaxi is owned by a company in Jersey. In a written response, says Fredrik Hazén, nordic head of communications for the Triton:

’the Triton’s portfolio companies so as Dantaxi pay tax on their profits in the respective markets – in this case Denmark – like all other companies.’

’Investors in TSM (Triton Smaller Midcap), owner of the Dantaxi, has gone on to make their investments through Luxembourg and Jersey, because this is a tested and proven method of pooling investments from many countries and also to ensure tax transparency.’

’withholding tax made in accordance with the Danish legislation.’

’the Experts believe that it is among the trades that you want to hide, who are the investors, and that it is easy to run money on from Luxembourg, if you will have the money for a new one…’

‘I disagree, that Jersey will be used to avoid insight. The background is that we want to avoid problems with double taxation.

‘Will you tell who your investors are?’

‘We will not disclose the names of our investors.’

the Background for the sale is, according to Rasmus Krochin, communications manager, Dantaxi:

’the Decision lay in the extension of the hauliers ‘ desire to capitalize the values in the company, and in order to better respond to future challenges f.ex. in conjunction with the new taxilov. With the backing of the owners was a clear mandate to the board of directors (chairman of the board: Lars Christian Christiansen) on the sale.’

’Lars Christian Christiansen is today a member of the board of the operating company Dantaxi 4×48, but is not part of the current ownership structure.’

’The turnover of the taxi service will be paid for each transaction set in relation to his driving. The hauliers are liable to tax in Denmark, which employed drivers also.’
