After meeting with the management teams of the municipal schools and AMPAs, the City Council of Armilla decided to increase staff cleaning in order to ensure a higher frequency of disinfection and cleaning of the educational centers.

The City Council has created a plan to strengthen the cleaning and disinfection efforts at educational centers in light of the Covid-19 situation. “Our schools will have 2 additional cleaning assistants in the morning, along with the afternoon staff. In addition to cleaning outside and streets around the schools that are being done by municipal services,” stated Mayor Loli Canavate. This service will add EUR130,000 to the municipal budget.

In this way, even though they are not the City Council’s responsibility, all Infant and Primary centers have been disinfected using a nebulization device. An extensive cleaning of the centers, including individual paper dispensers, hydroalcoholic gel dispensers, disposable paper dispensers, disinfectant gel dispensers and masks for children, has been done by a specialized company.

The City Council also made available to Junta de Andalucia several municipal buildings, parks, and municipal public spaces for groups of schoolchildren. This was done in an effort to reduce the ratios and create smaller groups that allow face-to-face education in the municipality with better safety and health guarantees during the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is the intention this government team to attend to the needs of educational centres to ensure safe return to school. The mayor of the municipality stated that this effort is meant to supplement the action protocols developed by educational centers. These management teams do fundamental work to reduce the risk of spreading the disease among students, staff, and families.

The first mayor of Andalusian has criticised the Andalusian government for its inability to provide safety for schoolchildren upon their return to school. He also wanted to send a message to the families warning them that the City Council would do all it can to ensure the safety of their children and their families.
