It was a bottle of cognac back from 1762, before the French revolution. It is both the oldest, but also most expensive bottle of cognac sold at auction. The buyer was a collector from Asia, which are therefore paid a little over 1 million. kr. for the bottle.
”Despite the many years under the prop is content to drink and has retained its character” thinks Jonny Fowle from sotheby’s who sold the bottle. ”We must assume that alkoholniveauet in it is pretty high, and it will have acted as a preservative for hundreds of years,” he continues.
The rare bottle is the largest of the three remaining, and known as the “Grand Frere” (big brother). It is thought to be bottled in 1840. The other two bottles are known as little sister and little brother. The first store in Gautier museum, in Aigre in the south west of France, while the other was sold at an auction in New York in 2014 for well over a quarter of a million dkk.
