“It was a close call, I have nothing to regret, it was a fabulous match, I had a crazy time. What makes me saddest is not being able to give victory to all those who supported me, pushed me to the end. This is the small regret I have. You’ll have to be a little more patient. I want to continue in the same state of mind, it will smile on me one day or another.”
“Physically, I’m exhausted after an hour and a half. I came off the court, I felt unwell. I really pushed through my efforts. I was completely out of breath. Eyes that were starting to close. I told Jeremy (his coach): ‘I need to lie down and lift my legs, I’m going to leave…’ The doctor arrived. I had a coke, I had to lie down for 10 minutes. This happens to me from time to time. It all came down suddenly. I was also in a bit of a trance state during the match. I gave a lot of myself, I experienced it to the fullest, I think it’s normal.”
“I had opportunities. Maybe sometimes I lacked a little aggression. It still served well. There are a few, from memory, where I don’t play well, where I lack intention, aggressiveness. That’s what I missed.”
“When I made the break, at 5/4 in the second, I entered a kind of bubble. I felt great. Jeremy gave me a lot of strength. Afterwards, I managed to stay calm until the end, trying to really play point by point. I felt a lot more comfortable from the debreak, I felt like I needed to do one to try to feel a little better.”
“I was one set away, 5/4, I was like it can’t end like that! I felt that they too were capable of turning the match around. I played on that too. Honestly, it’s one of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced. And so, it was fantastic.”
“I’m not that far away; Already, I’m going to be at my best ranking next week. And then, what makes me feel good is being able to play these players regularly for a few weeks, and I’m starting to get used to the intensity, the level of play, to what I have to produce on the pitch to beat that kind of player.”
“My support goes to Jo-Wilfried (Tsonga), I would very much like to have him on the bench, he is someone I want to fight for. He lived in the Davis Cup, he has great experience, he can bring a lot to the new generation, and also, there are those who are arriving, there is me in between.”
