Brussels 200 local residents have Sunday an emotional vigil held for Dariana Palcau (30), who last week was killed in a traffic accident. There were flowers laid out and residents were some of the speeches. “We are at risk here each day of the road mowed.”

The commemoration was organized by the newly formed collective 1081/0, which, like other similar groups in Brussels a safer traffic and more space for vulnerable road users want. “We want to give a signal that something must be done”, says Koen Depaepe, one of the initiators of the collective. “There are posts placed on this zebra crossing, but there are in this neighbourhood many more dangerous intersections.”

more than 200 people gathered at the scene of the accident on the Jetselaan. They laid flowers down and children made chalk drawings on the place where Dariana Palcau on march 30, was hit by a car. A 19-year-old driver drove her when they wanted to catch up along the bike path. Dariana was weggekatapulteerd and died on the spot.

The neighborhood now that there is fast action for a safer traffic. “We go regularly with the children to the Elisabethpark here near,” says Depaepe. “That park is surrounded by busy roads. What if next time a child is hit? Therefore, touching this accident, our personal and we want our action to do something about the unsafe traffic situation in the area.
