Whenever someone says “the state, that’s all of us,” I have to think of the sender, again of Robert Habeck. And the fact that this sentence could not actually be more wrong. Or would you decide to take grotesquely freedom-apart coercive measures against yourself, such as bans on reading on park benches due to the pandemic? I don’t believe.
Individual preferences and needs differ, which is why it is simply impossible for the state to represent all citizens equally – or, even more absurdly, even to embody them. What’s more, Robert Habeck doesn’t stop being Robert Habeck just because he transformed into the left-green hand of Leviathan.
