Olympique Lyonnais is angry. The Rhone team cannot digest the decision of the Professional Football League to reschedule the Olympico for next Wednesday, December 6 at the Stade Vélodrome and with the public. Present at a press conference, before the match against Stade Rennes this Sunday (5 p.m.), Fabio Grosso expressed this Friday his astonishment…and his annoyance. “I was pretty sure we shouldn’t go back to them. I saw that nothing happened, we are doing the same as before. I didn’t think it was possible but it happened. I find that unacceptable. We want to stay focused on our match because we don’t want to look for excuses. We will wait for the final decision,” he declared to journalists.
Before adding: “It is very serious what happened, it is not normal and we must apply better things than what has been applied until now. We must make strong decisions otherwise unacceptable things will happen again. We must not expect anything more serious than what happened to me. They played the following match at home without the opposing supporters. I have nothing against Marseille, the leaders. Something happened near the stadium. I hope for a strong decision regarding what happened. It’s difficult to take for those like me who have experienced this…”
Asked about a possible boycott of Les Gones for Olympico, the Italian coach indicated that this option had not (yet?) been considered: “I didn’t think about it because I didn’t think we would go back then that something happened five hundred meters from the stadium and with people going to the stadium…We didn’t feel protected and we don’t feel protected in relation to the match that is about to come,” he confided.

As a reminder, the clash between Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais, scheduled for October 29, was postponed following the stone attack on the Rhone bus during which Fabio Grosso and one of his assistants were injured. The Italian, who had to have stitches installed, was subsequently granted total incapacity for work for thirty days. Les Gones wanted to replay the match on neutral ground. They decided to appeal the LFP’s decision.
