“It is likely that there will be no land act, given the lag that there has been with the judgment of the Parliament,” said the minister during a hearing by video conference by the Commission on sustainable development and territory Planning of the national Assembly. “We had planned to make this text property in the spring of 2021, but I think we need to speak frankly: it will be difficult,” continued the minister.
“Everything that can be made by orders in council, by order, in prescribed manner, we will take that”, has, however, added the minister, referring to subjects that are crucial for the future of agriculture, such as the statute of the tenant farming, the installation of young people, or “societies of capital-intensive purchasing land”: “it is out of the question back on the subject,” he said.
The aging worrying of the agricultural population
The law had been called for by the president Macron during his visit at the salon of Agriculture 2019. The FN Safer, federation of national bodies to oversee the rural development and land, has even warned recently against the growing concentration of agricultural land in the hands of large corporations. This trend has in particular the consequence of the roll-back of the livestock in favour of arable crops.
Another worrying phenomenon against which they should fight this law, the aging of the farm population. While the latter already represents more than 3% of assets, transfers of farms to younger people more complicated: a crucial issue, while one farmer in two is going to retire in ten years.
