By winning (3-1) in Nantes, Saturday, for the 26th day of Ligue 1, Strasbourg obtained a first victory in 2024 “which feels good morally”, recognized coach Patrick Vieira. “It’s a great victory for us. I’m really satisfied for the players because we lacked a lot of success in these last few meetings, we didn’t always get what we deserved,” he said.
“We played a serious match, well disciplined and we brought a little technical accuracy that we lacked in our previous matches and we managed to score goals and win the match. It’s a big satisfaction,” he admitted.
With only four points ahead of the red zone, the Alsatians are nevertheless far from being saved and must not get carried away. “Yes, it’s a victory that does us good morally but there is work to do with this calm that we have always had,” tempered Vieira. “We know that it is very complicated for us to win a match and, when we win, we have to enjoy it and, at the same time, not forget where we were the last match,” he added.
He nevertheless appreciated the newfound efficiency of his two scorers, Emmanuel Emegha, author of a double in the second half and Kevin Gameiro who scored his 100th goal in Ligue 1. “We need confidence and it’s true that Emma , based on the meetings he was able to have with us, we cannot blame him for a lack of activity. Today, he was rewarded and that’s a good thing,” noted the coach.
As for Gameiro, “it’s something we celebrated with him (…) 100 goals is extraordinary for him. I hope this will free him up for the rest of the championship,” he concluded.
