The American group Eagles, known worldwide for their hit Hotel California, announced Thursday a farewell tour which will begin in New York in September and could well continue, after half a century of career. The Californian rockers will perform for thirteen first dates, from September to November and all in the United States, but warn in their press release that “they will give as many shows” as “the public requests” and anticipate that the tour may be extended. until 2025.
The tour, titled The Long Goodbye, will begin Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. “Our long journey has been far longer than any of us ever imagined. But everything has an end and the time has come for us to come full circle,” say the musicians, including band veteran Don Henley.
Formed in 1971 and fronted by vocalist and drummer Don Henley and guitarist Glenn Frey, who died in 2016, the Eagles topped the US charts in the 1970s with their hits Take It Easy, One of These Nights and Hotel California, songs that are still classics today. The group, which split and reformed several times, sold 150 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy Awards, the awards of the American music industry.
