The current director of the Toulouse Abattoirs Museum, Annabelle Ténèze, will succeed Marie Lavandier at the head of the Louvre-Lens, the museum announced on Tuesday. “On the proposal of the board of directors (…) and in connection with the Minister of Culture, Annabelle Ténèze, chief curator of heritage, is appointed to the management of the Louvre-Lens by Laurence des Cars”, the president- director of the Louvre Museum, according to a press release from the museum. The new director will take up her duties in the fall of 2023.

At the Abattoirs, Annabelle Ténèze has curated multiple exhibitions, including “Picasso and exile. A History of Spanish Art in Resistance” and “Niki de Saint Phalle. The years 1980-1990, art in freedom”. She succeeds Marie Lavandier, appointed President of the Center des Monuments Nationaux.

Built around a free “Galerie du temps” which presents masterpieces from the Louvre’s collections, the Louvre-Lens celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2022, boasting of having exceeded 5 million visitors in a territory , the former mining area of ​​Nord-Pas-de-Calais, long damaged.
