“I tasted misfortune for around twenty years, the dark years of alcoholism, I got out of it three years ago already, I am very happy.” It is a happy and peaceful man who spoke Friday morning on RTL which received Renaud.
The singer, currently on tour, publishes In my ropes, his 20th studio album, where he revisits 18 of his titles in a symphonic way. Galvanized by this return to the stage, he spoke on RTL of the joy of meeting his fans again: “I missed the public (…) this contact, this exchange with this fabulous audience that I am lucky to have” he confided to our colleague Steven Bellery.
“I have never been known for my vocal performances, but the public likes my character, my look, my anger, my anxieties, my sorrows, they like to share that with me,” says the man who considers himself more of a “storyteller” as a singer. “Chained by love”, Renaud also spoke of his new companion, Cerise: “Love changes your life, it helps you live, it helps you cope with the inevitable, knowing that you are going to die one day”.
Freed from his addictions, alcohol and, more recently, cigarettes, transfigured by love, Renaud presents himself today as “a wise man, a free man”. Out of his slump, he is teeming with projects and plans to celebrate his fifty years of career, in less than two years, with “a Zénith tour”, as well as “a new album in preparation.”
