A defection a few hours before the opening of the Cannes Film Festival. Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen has resigned from the presidency of the Critics’ Week jury “due to personal circumstances”, announced without further details those responsible for the 63rd edition of the Week which will be held from May 15 to 23, 2024.

Sylvie Pialat, filmmaker who was part of the jury, was thus catapulted to the presidency. Her own place will not remain vacant: Iris Kaltenbäck will be the new juror of Critics’ Week, alongside Rwandan actress Eliane Umuhire, Belgian cinematographer Virginie Surdej and North American journalist and critic Ben Croll.

Founded in 1962, Critics’ Week revealed the promising talents of filmmakers like Bernardo Bertolucci, Amos Gitai, Ken Loach, Wong Kar-Wai and François Ozon. This year, eleven feature films were selected, including seven participants in the competition. Among them, Taiwanese films will be viewed, such as Locust by director KEFF, Argentinian films, such as Simon de la montaña by Frederico Luis, or French films, with La Pampa by Antoine Chevrollier.
