Film Filmmonteur John Ottman (54) may net an Oscar for ‘best editing’ won for the film ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, yet is he himself not one hundred percent satisfied with his work on the biopic about Queen. Especially one particular scene bothers him terribly, so he tells The Washington Post.

In ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is a scene in which Queen for the first time manager John Reid (played by Aidan Gillen) meets with. The clip went quickly viral because of the bad transitions and sloppy montageritme. On YouTube appeared even a video-essay in which all doubtful montagekeuzes extensively were discussed. That movie was already more than 1.6 million views. John Ottman, the mechanic of the film, was not aware of the existence of the film, though he is also not surprised. “I had no idea, but I do know why the movie is”, he tells The Washington Post.

has a Lot to do with how ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ came about. Three weeks before the end of the production, was director Bryan Singer dismissed for negligence and replaced by Dexter Fletcher. Who decided to the storyline, what to restructure, making the dialogues from the original encounter between the Queen and John Reid had nothing more to beat. In addition, it had Ottman also ensure that the first part of the movie, what faster was improving, but the test audience wanted more material from the early years of Queen. And so it had to Ottman again the montagekamer in to the scenes a bit more space to give. Only he had no time to do the same with the meeting scene. “When I scene see, I want a bag over my head to pull,” he says. “Because that is not my aesthetic. If we ever have an extended version of the movie, and I get the chance to have a few scenes again, then I will that specific scene sure to re-assemble!”

was working on ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ is not all doom and gloom for the mechanic. “It reminded me of ‘The Usual Suspects’. Each of them was so perfectly cast, and they work in such perfect symbiosis with each other. That is just a dream! So what for to torment the mount is, because it is really a terrible way of life – when the material inspires you, helps you move forward.”

(From 3 min 28 it is about the conscious scene.)
