Like last year, the Christmas bonus, also called “exceptional end-of-year assistance”, will be paid on December 15 to the most modest. Since 1998, it has been granted to recipients of certain social minimums. Who can benefit ? How much? And for whom is it revalued? Le Figaro takes stock.

Last year, 2.3 million households benefited from the Christmas bonus. This financial assistance is aimed at the most modest households, who receive the active solidarity income (RSA), the specific solidarity allowance (ASS) or the retirement equivalent allowance (AER). To benefit from it, you must have received or receive one of these allowances in November and/or December 2023.

For beneficiaries of the bonus, its amount varies depending on place of residence and family situation. This year, the aid was increased by 35% for single-parent families receiving the RSA. Around 660,000 families are affected by this revaluation, which represents a cost of 70 million euros for the State. Note that “the Christmas bonus is not taxable and you do not have to declare it for taxes”, underlines the CAF.

For beneficiaries of ASS or AER, the amount of the premium is fixed, at 152.45 euros. But for those living alone and caring for children, it is possible to increase this amount on request from Pôle emploi. A single person with a dependent child will receive, for example, 205.81 euros.

The amount also changes if “you only receive ASS or AER”, now set at 76.23 euros. Once again, for single people with at least one dependent child, assistance can be increased “on request from Pôle emploi”.

The 2023 Christmas bonus will be paid on December 15, the same date as last year, for people who are beneficiaries of the RSA, ASS or AER in November 2023. Please note, this does not does not mean that beneficiaries will receive it from December 15. The bonus will then be paid in January “for aid beneficiaries whose entitlement began in December 2023”, stipulates the CAF website. This allowance is paid automatically by Pôle emploi, the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) or the Family Allowance Fund (CAF), depending on the situation of the household.

After checking the access conditions, payment is automatic. You don’t have to take any action.

For precarious single-parent families, the 2023 Christmas bonus will be supplemented by an exceptional allowance of 115 to 200 euros. This additional aid, proposed by socialist deputies, supported by the government and voted by Parliament at the beginning of November, should concern around 600,000 families, at an estimated cost of 70 million euros.
