death by starvation threatens 14 million – so can you help

Families with children fleeing war – again and again.

But few escape the famine which may come to cost 14 million people.

Everyday life in Yemen is hell, that the world has not been able to see.

the War in Yemen has created the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. The hardest affected the civilian population. Two million are now displaced, and many families have also tvingast escape several times during the civil war in Yemen.

the War has been very mercilessly, not least in the year. Only between 1 June to 23 October, was forced to 530 000 people to flee.

the Country is now also facing the worst cholera epidemic the world has seen during this century. But the worst is the looming famine.

14 million people are now at risk of starving to death. This would correspond to a famine that wipes out basically the entire population of Norway, Denmark and Finland.

But the international attention has often conspicuous by its absence. Yemen lacks a strategic raw materials, such as oil, and has long been one of the world’s poorest countries.

Lack of food and clean water have long been pressing problems, and during the last four years of the war the situation has worsened drastically. When the fighting now raging in the port city of Hodeidah affected the civilian population once again. Much of the country’s imports have gone through the port, which now makes it very difficult to get food and emergency aid.

the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) leads the ongoing effort to give the people protection from the war’s dangers. An important task is to ensure that children and families get a roof over their head; for example, a simple mattress to sleep on and a blanket to crawl under when the night comes.

the UNHCR also provides support to the hard strained the healthcare system in Yemen. One of the biggest tasks right now is to oppose the spread of cholera, a mammoth task.
