The director, actor and showman brazilian José Mojica Marins , creator of the iconic character in horror, that interpetava on and off set, Coffin Joe, which had earned the nickname “the director of the horror the most crazy of the world” for its extravagant clothing (and nail disproportionate), died yesterday in a hospital in são Paulo, Brazil, where he was hospitalized from 28 January to bronchopneumonia, at the age of 83 years. The announcement of the death was given by his daughter, actress Liz Marins .
The great passion of his were the horror film from the gothic atmospheres, with strong images and shocking, film review, and cruel, sadistic, and brutal: all of this has made of Marins the first director south american horror. His most famous character is called Zé do Caixão (in Italian sounds like ‘Joseph out of the coffin’, while the cinema is known by the international name of Coffin Joe), which opened in 1964 in the film midnight possiederò your soul.
The original idea of Marins was to direct the film without recitarvi but he decided to play the role of the evil undertaker in consequence of the abandonment of the actor. Interpreted by the same director, since then Zé-Marins, the hero of the sequel, he dressed always in black, with a cylinder, coat, and nails long, which is cut off only in 1998.
The anti-hero created by Marins was censured and opposed in Brazil, but soon became a character of worship in the home and outside the Latin american country with the visions of the underground. The huge success prompted Marins to continue on that road, and to further develop his character, which appeared in dozens of films.
Filmed in 1967, the first successful films, titled Esta Noite encarnarei no Teu Cadàver, in which Zé do Caixão returned most evil and obsessed by the search of the perfect mother for his offspring. Other films from the Seventies is the protagonist Zé-Marins in the plots incredibly weird, where horror is mixed more often with the eroticism.
In 2008, Marins has finished the trilogy official Zé with the Incarnation of the Devil, sadistic, blasphemous, visionary conclusion of one of the most amazing film sagas ever.
