Dior Unveils its Cruise 2025 Collection in Perthshire, Scotland

In 1955, Monsieur Dior traveled to Scotland to showcase his creations in the ballroom of the Gleneagles Hotel. Fast forward to the Cruise 2025 collection, it is now Maria Grazia Chiuri’s turn to choose the spectacular terraced gardens of Drummond Castle as the narrative backdrop.

In the shadow of the gray stones, the Artistic Director of the women’s collections at the House creates a connection between eras and cultures with this new outdoor fashion show. Photographs from the spring-summer 1955 presentation are transformed into prints or applied along a pleated skirt. The kilt, a typical Scottish garment, as well as the tartan and its multiple color variations, find new expressions here. Christian Dior once wrote in “The Little Dictionary of Fashion”: “It is undoubtedly the only fancy fabric that resists trends.”

Among the favorite materials, velvet contrasts with lace to dress contemporary riders. The lengths alternate from short to long, coats and capes, like a majestic map of Scotland, protect as much as they envelop the female bodies. The cuts feature sleeves with oversized effects, ruffled skirts, and bodices resplendent with embroidery. Inspired by the figure of Mary Stuart, the tragic queen of Scotland and skilled embroiderer, Maria Grazia Chiuri reimagines the Millefleurs motif in a heraldic version with the unicorn and thistle, Scottish emblems. Whether wearing rain boots or thigh-high boots, Dior women are alternately punk or romantic. With bare faces or adorned with pearls, they have a conquering look even when dressed in light mesh fabrics woven with light.
