Good news for tricolor motorists. Both petrol and diesel prices have seen a drop this week, according to calculations made by Fig Data via public data from the Ministry of Energy Transition. While SP-98, SP-95 and also E10 had reached their highest in mid-April, these fuels have now returned to their level at the start of the month. At the same time, diesel continued to fall, depreciating by four cents over the past seven days.
In detail, the SP-98 lost more than two cents and fell back below two euros (1.9841 euro) on Thursday. The prices of the SP-95 and the E10 followed this trend, at 1.9414 and 1.9 euros respectively, down 2.2 and 3.4 cents. The situation is similar for diesel: a liter cost 1.7685 euros, which is 3.8 cents less compared to Thursday 20.
If we consider the prices since the beginning of this year, the increase remains 4.8% for the SP-95-E10, 5% for the SP-95 and 4.4% for the SP-98. On the other hand, diesel has lost 8% of its value in 2023, and has gone from being the most expensive fuel to that of the most advantageous in France.
As a reminder, since March 1 and until the end of the year, the prices of diesel and SP-95 are capped at 1.99 euros in TotalEnergies service stations. A gesture made under pressure from the government.
Even if the barrel of Brent from the North Sea had soared at the beginning of April following the announcement by the members of OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Producing Countries) of drastic cuts in production to bring up the prices, sluggish demand in the United States and a possible rise in key rates once again pushed prices down. Oil thus cost 78.15 dollars against 80.71 last Thursday.
