Using each other’s handkerchiefs must be true love. At least, that’s what Robert Jan and Els from B&B Vol Liefde believe. Els seems to have no problem at all when she finds a used snot rag in Robert Jan’s pocket and unabashedly blows her nose into it. “He said it was okay.”
So far, things seem to be going well between the two nature lovers in Scotland. They go on one hike after another and have a good laugh. Despite the cold in the Scottish Highlands, Robert Jan and Els set out on another adventure in yesterday’s episode of B&B Vol Liefde. They walk past old graves and try to decipher the inscriptions.

But for a walk in the cold, you also need to take some precautions. Els is dressed in one of Robert Jan’s warm jackets. “It’s really gallant of him to say, ‘Put on that jacket with a bodywarmer underneath,’ because I get a bit chilly.”
A runny nose is almost unavoidable. Not very charming, but Els makes the best of it. “What’s in this jacket? A snot rag, used,” she says with a laugh. Used or not, Els doesn’t mind. “Can I?” she asks Robert Jan. “Yes, of course,” he replies.
And just like that, she does it. “I blow my nose in it. And he said it was okay. I’ll wash it for him,” Els responds to the camera.
Snot Rag Scandal in B&B Vol Liefde
Viewers of B&B Vol Liefde are in stitches over the somewhat gross moment between Els and Robert Jan. One of them jokingly refers to it as ‘snot rag scandal’. “True love is… reusing your date’s snot rags, according to Els,” another viewer comments. Yet another viewer agrees, “Robert Jan and Els, they don’t need anyone else. They are made for each other!”
But not everyone finds the segment funny. Some viewers are actually disgusted by it. “Gross,” writes one viewer on X. “Disgusting Els,” writes another.
