Free time This week is the week of the volunteer. Each day, one of our editors, themselves useful by a form of voluntary work to perform. Today it’s the turn of editor Timon, that dogs went walking at the animal shelter, The Blue Cross of Belgium.
The latest time I see on social media more and more terrible videos passing of neglected and miskweekte dogs with the text ‘adopt, don’t shop’. Images on your retinas, and that should ensure that we no longer allow new pets shop dogs (and also cats) from a shelter to adopt. The animal shelters in our country are chock-full. Last summer had some even with a waiting list started because of lack of space. By an animal to adopt, you go puppy mills and give dogs and cats a second chance. In extreme cases, red perhaps even his or her life.
Now, I am not exactly the biggest animal lover on earth. Not that the images of me not touching and that I have anything against the critters have, but out of fear and a slight (read: actually probably heavy) form of the I prefer that they are not too close in my neighborhood. A dog must be still for a while but loud barking, and I am precipitously on the other side of the street. Pretty embarrassing for a 27-year-old I think, hence my choice to spend a day volunteering in a shelter. Good for the animals and for myself. Win-Win!
Although animal shelters volunteers to good use, it is not so that you just with the dogs can go for a walk when you that comes out. At The Blue Cross of Belgium Wommelgem you in advance, for example, an introductory video to view in the center for your dogs should be walking. That might sound quite cumbersome for something that you are free to do, but actually it is more than logical. This will give every dog there a color code ranging from green, yellow to red on the basis of how easy they are in dealing with people and other dogs. If you have little experience with the animals and not as strong, it may be a ‘red dog’ then it’s also easy to miss during a walk. Also you should always have 2 leibanden put for in the event that the dog is in it starts to bite or head out to pull. And so, there are still a few rules that you must follow for your own safety and the safety of the dogs.
