Notice to collectors, budding aviators and other enthusiasts of miniature constructions, the Concorde is back on the front of the stage. Famous Danish Lego Group is teaming up with airline manufacturer Airbus to resurrect the world’s most famous supersonic airliner. Available for purchase from September 7 at a price of 199.99 euros, the construction set of 2083 pieces is reserved for adults.
Like the real Concorde, this detailed scale model is “featuring a tilting nose, working landing gear, retractable tail wheel, delta wings with movable elevons and rudders hinged top and bottom,” trumpets Lego. The supersonic aircraft, born in Toulouse and designed jointly by Sud-Aviation and British Aircraft Corporation, is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its last flight this year.
Once built, this almost faithful reproduction – in appearance only – can be exhibited thanks to its presentation support so as to recall its take-off or landing. This miniature Concorde, 105 centimeters long, will join the Titanic, the Porsche 911 and the Colosseum in the long list of Icons, these “iconic monuments, modular buildings, classic vehicles and cult references to pop culture” to which Lego does not cease to associate ingeniously.
