In full presentation of the main lines of the 2024 budget, the Minister in charge of Public Accounts Thomas Cazenave confirmed the possible increase in medical deductibles. “The track under study is an increase of 50 euro cents,” he said on France 2. The goal? Guarantee the financing of social security. Since 2004, the existing deductible is 50 cents. It would therefore be doubled. The Minister wants to be reassuring, specifying that this increase would take into account the personal situations of each, excluding for example the long-term sick. The maximum amount paid each year via medical deductibles will be set at 50 euros.
For Thomas Cazenave, this doubling would come in compensation for the previous measures taken by the government making certain care more accessible. Since 2017, the executive has reportedly facilitated access to healthcare, including hearing aids, dental care and eyeglasses. Hence a need to find “new sources of funding”. “We continue to finance health care accessible to all, but we must also, in responsibility, sometimes find new sources of financing to guarantee our model”, argued the minister.
Created in 2008 under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy, this franchise has remained unchanged since: it amounts to 50 cents per box of medication and per paramedical act (physiotherapist, nursing care, etc.), or two euros per medical transport.
