Crowded metros, rising fares and an influx of 15 million tourists…Many Parisians fear the inconveniences for their daily lives at the time of the Olympic Games, organized in the capital from July 26 to August 11. According to a study by the rental site Abritel carried out among a thousand Parisians, 75% of them expect more people on public transport and 71% to experience travel difficulties in the region. While 66% fear an influx of people on the streets.

Most are considering solutions to avoid the difficulties caused by this global sporting event. According to the Abritel study, 60% of active Parisians surveyed say that they will use teleworking very regularly next summer. So no more having to travel, the objective for them seems to be to avoid any contact with the city during this period. Ideally, 23% of these same workers would like, in the heart of summer, to combine a period of teleworking and vacation to stay outside Paris longer. And 26% plan to extend their vacation period to avoid returning home too prematurely.

Among these potential teleworkers, 12% of them also say they are ready to pay more this year to reserve accommodation far from Paris. Because, if they want to telework, they want to do it in a suitable location. Thus, 31% of them plan to go to work in their second home, 27% from a vacation rental and 25% in a friend’s house or one belonging to family. In total, only 10% plan to telework from a hotel.

But if comfort seems to be necessary to carry out their tasks, moving considerably away from the city is less of a problem for the workers interviewed. 36% of these active Parisians are considering working from Ile de France and 38% say that it would be best to telework from another country. So, are we about to see Paris completely deserted of these inhabitants? Not so sure…The Abritel study still reports that 15% of Parisians, who usually go on vacation during the Olympics, are enthusiastic about the idea of attending this sporting competition in the capital city. They are already planning to stay this year to enjoy the atmosphere in the city.
