Opta Predicts Course of Euro with Two Clear Favorites

The latest predictions from Opta models have forecasted the outcome of the upcoming Euro tournament. According to the data, England and France are the top two favorites to lift the Coupe Henri Delaunay in Berlin on July 14th. Meanwhile, the outlook for the Dutch team points towards an exit in the quarterfinals.

The chances of the tournament winner being England (19.9%), France (19.1%), or host nation Germany (12.4%) are higher than fifty percent, as per the forecast. In addition to the two frontrunners and the prominent outsider, Opta also gives five other countries a reasonable chance. Spain (9.6%), Portugal (9.2%), the Netherlands (5.1%), Italy (5%), and Belgium (4.7%) collectively account for over thirty percent. The remaining teams are considered to have minimal to no chances.

Despite having a 5.1% chance of victory, the Dutch team is not a favorite but not without hope either. In a group with France, Poland, and Austria, Ronald Koeman’s squad has a 24% chance of winning the group, 33.9% chance of finishing second, and 25.5% chance of finishing third. The likelihood of reaching the round of sixteen is estimated at 76.2%. The quarterfinals also present a reasonable chance at 45.8%, with the odds decreasing thereafter.

In 24.2% of simulations, the Netherlands made it to the semifinals, with an 11.4% chance of being the runner-up and a 5.1% chance of winning the tournament. The chances for debutant Georgia are rated the lowest.
