Funny way to resume the discussion with the government. The inter-union, which met this Tuesday morning the day after a day of mobilization which it considers “historic”, decided to call for a new day of action on June 6. The date may seem far away, more than a month will separate it from the previous one, but it owes nothing to chance. Two days later, Thursday June 8, the deputies will examine a bill from the Liot group aimed at repealing the pension reform just enacted.

Like the day of action organized on March 16 in front of the National Assembly, the day the government resorted to 49.3, the aim will be to put pressure on elected officials. “We call on our organizations as a unit to meet the deputies everywhere to call on them to vote on this bill. In this context, the inter-union calls for more initiatives, including a new day of joint action, strikes and demonstrations on June 6,” the unions wrote in their press release the day after May 1.

The option of a new day began to take shape in recent days. The day before, Cyril Chabanier, number one of the CFTC, a reformist union, had come out in favor of this new day. “Personally, I am in favor of organizing a new date around June 8,” he said.

It is a blow for the government which hoped that this May 1st ends once and for all this difficult pension reform. Several organizations had thus clearly come out in favor of a resumption of discussions in the coming days. The date had been checked by the government, which intended to send invitations to come and discuss at Matignon “in the coming days”, according to the Minister of Labor, Olivier Dussopt. But for the unions, discussing is not capitulating.
