No train between the capital and Lyon during the long weekend of November 11. SNCF Réseau announces this Thursday, February 29 that the TGV line between Paris and Lyon, the busiest in the French rail network, which also connects the capital to Marseille and Montpellier, will be closed for work for four days from Saturday November 9 to Tuesday November 12 2024. The SNCF will still run trains on this axis, via the classic line, but the travel time will be more than doubled.

This work will make it possible to equip the line, also the busiest in Europe, with the ERTMS signaling system, explains the network manager. This European standard should make it possible to improve the regularity and reliability of trains but also increase the capacity of the line by 25% by 2030.

All trains using this route will therefore not be able to run: this concerns both the TGV inOui of SNCF and the Frecciarossa of its competitor Trenitalia. SNCF Voyageurs specifies that it will maintain 30% of the TGV Sud-Est offer this weekend between Paris and Lyon, Grenoble, Montpellier, Marseille Toulon… The trains will use traditional routes to bypass the LGV, with a considerably longer journey time : 4h30 for Paris-Lyon instead of 2 hours or 7h20 for Paris-Marseille instead of 3 hours.

Certain lines between two provincial cities, such as Lyon-Rennes, Lyon-Nantes or Lille-Marseille, will not be operated, just like Paris-Barcelona, Brussels-Marseille and Paris-Milan. The TGV Lyria to Switzerland are maintained “with a reduction in supply”. In addition, the stations of Lille Europe, TGV Haute-Picardie, Roissy Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV, Marne-la-Vallée Chessy, Massy TGV, Le Creusot-Montceau-Montchanin TGV, Mâcon-Loché TGV, Lyon Saint-Exupéry TGV , Valence TGV, and Nîmes-Pont-du-Gard will not be served during the four days of closure.

The classic lines are also used by the Ouigo classic trains as well as the TER between Paris and Lyon, which should run normally. Trenitalia has yet to specify its transport plan for the period.
