Thiago Motta is set to make a domestic move to Juventus as the successor to the recently sacked coach Massimiliano Allegri, according to Fabrizio Romano’s signature “here we go.” The former Italy international will sign a contract on Tuesday that will keep him at the Old Lady until 2027.

Motta was the mastermind behind Bologna’s successful season this year. With Dutch players Joshua Zirkzee and Sam Beukema on the team, they had a historic campaign and secured a spot in Champions League football for the first time in history by finishing fifth.

Romano had revealed in mid-May, following Allegri’s outburst during the Coppa Italia final against Atalanta (which they won 1-0), that the 41-year-old Motta was the top candidate to become the new head coach of la Vecchia Signora. A week later, Bologna officially announced that they would part ways with Motta after the successful season, paving the way for his move to Turin. Bologna president Joey Saputo had nothing but praise for the Italian coach, stating, “I have gotten to know a coach with the ultimate winning mentality over the past two years. Thiago has given the team a brilliant identity.”

Motta, who played for top clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, and Inter during his playing career, began his coaching journey with the Parisians’ Under-19 team after retiring in 2018. He then moved on to Genoa before finding success at Spezia and eventually landing at Bologna in 2022. Last season, he guided the team to a ninth-place finish in Serie A.

As Motta prepares to take on his new role at Juventus, fans will be eagerly watching to see if he can continue his success and lead the team to more victories in the future. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development in the world of football!
