The morale of households in France improved slightly in June, with them showing themselves to be a little more confident about the future, in particular their future financial situation, INSEE said on Wednesday. The indicator, which reflects household confidence, gained two points to 85 points compared to May, a level which remains however “well below” its long-term average (100), specified the National Institute statistics.

Both their future financial situation (1 point) and the future standard of living in France (5 points) are judged more positively by households, but here too the balances of opinion are below their long-term average. The past situation is also seen under better auspices.

Households are also more likely (1 point) to be more confident about their future savings capacity, while the proportion of those who consider it appropriate to make major purchases has decreased (-3 points). Another unfavorable sign for consumption, the opportunity to save gains 1 point.

At the same time, the proportion of households considering that prices will increase further over the next twelve months has fallen by 6 points. The same applies to those who estimate that they have increased over the past twelve months (-7 points). Fears about the evolution of unemployment are also decreasing (-7 points).
