What does christmas mean to you?
“Honestly, every year I look forward to this period. I’ve always done. As a child, I was particularly
interested in the masses of presents under the tree and the santa claus in the local supermarket. The older I get, the more importance I attach to the social aspect. Really really make time for the people I like to see, after a year in which everyone has their own busy life leads, I find delicious. I also find it interesting to notice how such a feast each year in volume increases. There are babies born, there will be partners. That evolve is fine, and christmas is the period of time for it to stand still.”
Can you describe what that period of time exactly does to you?
“I feel always very little child. You are sensual in very different ways stimulated:
the kerstklassiekers on the radio, the decorations in the streets that often is overwhelming, the smell of pine branches, candles and fondue, and preferably the combination. An instant flashback to my childhood. It is like a warm blanket, where I like to go. For christmas only I, that is atmosphere and friendliness in a little to high concentration. (laughs) But to walk around the city and the winter smell is pure enjoyment for me.”
