During the severe Bush fires in Australia, more than 2000 Koalas are to experts estimate that since October, have already burned. At a hearing in front of the Parliament in Canberra, scientists were on Monday concerned that due to the continuing fire could kill many more animals.
The Director of a Koala hospital in the state of New South Wales, Cheyne Flanagan, said: “We have some fires behind us, but there never was. It is terrible. And the whole summer before us.”
Together with kangaroos, Koalas are one of the most well-known animals that are only native to Australia. The so-called marsupial live mainly in trees. There you can hardly move. According to the conservation organisation, the Australia Koala Foundation (AKF), there are still between 43 000 and 100’000 Koalas.
